Legacy System Integration Finished

JavaApplet MES Portal

Portable desktop browser that keeps the legacy Proficy Portal (GE Digital) MES accessible on modern Windows stations after Java Applet/NPAPI support was dropped by mainstream browsers — no installation, no admin rights, no costly MES replacement.

The Challenge

The plant's legacy Manufacturing Execution System, GE Proficy Portal, depended on Java Applets — a technology mainstream browsers have discontinued. As the facility upgraded its workstations to Windows 11, that dependency threatened to lock operators out of a mission-critical production system, with a full MES replacement being the only alternative anyone had considered.

The Solution

We engineered a dedicated, portable browser environment that encapsulates the exact legacy Java runtime Proficy Portal needs, isolating it from the rest of the system. It runs on modern Windows 11 stations without installation or admin rights, distributed via USB or shared network drive, and requires no changes to the underlying MES itself.

The Results

Operators kept uninterrupted access to the existing MES and all of its custom workflows, on current hardware, without the cost and disruption of a full system replacement.
